Sintra Portugal, Palacio de la Pena
Sintra constitue l'un de ces endroits magiques où s'épanouit une
végétation extraordinairement dense et riche en espèces. Vous y
trouverez aussi de charmantes demeures ainsi que des palais.
Si votre temps est limité, ne manquez surtout pas de visiter le
Palácio Nacional, une merveilleuse demeure d'été autrefois habitée par
les rois du Portugal. Bien que certains lui trouvent, non sans raison,
un manque d'unité, il s'agit d'un palais assez unique. Son mélange de
styles, allant du gothique au mudéjar en passant par le manuélin, lui
confère un certain caractère, rehaussé par deux énormes cheminées à la
fois surprenantes et élégantes.
Perché à 500 m de hauteur, sur un des sommets de la Serra da Sintra,
le Palácio da Pena ne manque pas d'attirer l'attention avec ses
couleurs vives. Il s'agit là d'un exemple des plus extravagants de ce
qu'a pu produire l'architecture «prusso portugaise». C'est en 1839 que
Ferdinand II de Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha de Bavière, époux de Dona Maria II,
achète les ruines d'un monastère afin de le transformer en résidence
d'été. Un ingénieur prussien, le baron Ludwig Von Eschwege, est chargé
du projet. L'ingénieur va édifier un château où se mélangent
allégrement un grand nombre de styles : mauresque, gothique, manuélin
et Renaissance, le tout dans une enveloppe aux accents un brin
germaniques! Après avoir observé attentivement son architecture
extérieure extravagante, vous ne serez pas surpris de découvrir un
intérieur tout aussi exubérant, où mobiliers et bibelots rococo
s'entremêlent aux stucs et autres sculptures d'inspiration mauresque.
Situé tout près, le Castelo dos Mouros est un ancien château maure,
construit aux VIIIe et IXe siècles, dont les murailles, quasiment
intactes, ont pu être conservées. En vous promenant à travers le site,
vous pourrez voir les ruines d'une jolie chapelle romane et accéder au
spectaculaire chemin de ronde du château.
