Monkey madness IV

Little monkeys are so much like little humans. Playful, shy, mischievous and cute.

Here are some shots showing them in different moods.

Don't you love their hair style and the elven (or Vulcan) ears!

Is it just me? I read something sad in each of these faces, even when there is mischief overlaying it. A lovely series.

Oh, Pandiyan, I soooooo want to paint him green. I know you understand. ;) He reminds me of some actor, though. I'll wake up at 2 am and suddenly remember who only to get up in the morning and forget all over again.

This little fellow has really charmed everyone, hasn't he!

Mike, what does GM say about him?

thejas, "I had rather see the portrait of a dog that I know, than all the allegorical paintings they can show me in the world." - Samuel Johnson

Jinx, how observant you are. He is a little sad. There were many of them. Not too old to be independent; not too young to be fussed over by their mothers. The mothers had small babies and these were on their own and I guess they missed their mother. When they saw that Uma was friendly, they clung on to her like they were her kids.

Initially they were shy and perhaps sad. But gradually they came on their own. They were climbing on her head, hugging her legs, swinging from her sari and so on. I wish I had Uma's poise and patience. Would you believe it, they got possessive of her that they gave dirty looks to Nila whenever she got close to Uma. They even threatened her. It was quite a sight Uma being swamped with four little monkeys.

After a while the father came; kept a respectable distance and kept an eye on them. Then came the mothers with their new babies. They were happy they got a good babysitter, I think! I'll post those pictures too.

Zaz, is it M Culkin? And, lil sis, you should really do something about this urge to paint everything green. There is this good doctor I want you to meet....

I am so inclined to say, that they are almost human.
I never managed to get this close to our genetic cousins - they always seem to be so aggresive....

Oh. And I never expected monkeys in Vedanthangal - it must be bad for the birds.

      Thanks friends.

Hello GM! So nice to see you. Does Mike spend enough time with you?

Viji, I am always happy to meet people who find animals beautiful. Thanks for your encouragement.

Sathish, Vedanthangal has always had many monkeys. But they don't bother the birds so much. They go more for the fruiting trees on the bank and the migratory birds are more on the tree on the water. Of course, we have many other woodland birds. But there is plenty of food everyone.

And I think aggression is usually a sign of fear or inadequacy. In this instance I saw it for myself. Many animals give mock threats and try oneupmanship initially. You can get close to them by becoming trustworthy or stand them down by standing firm and giving forceful looks. I am told this works sometimes even with tigers. I have tried it with fierce looking dogs. Flight or fight are usually linked to fright. In my humble opinion this happens with people, communities and nations.
