The Rickety Treehouse
Here is the tree house I referred to earlier.
We had to leave the car two kilometres away and trek through the deep forest. There was no sign of civilisation anywhere. There was another treehouse a KM away but was unoccupied.
We reached late and it was 6.30 pm when we started walking. Soon it was all dark. Of course, we had torches and more importantly two forest guides. These young fellows were navigating through the thick jungles like humans need no eyes. Amazing.
Though this part does have animals like elephants, tigers and panthers, we got to see only Indian Wild Buffalo. The house had trenches all around to dissuade elephants from coming close. It was some experience with no electricity, strange sounds, periodic looks at the field below for animals, lots of food.....
More on the animals later.

What an adventure! And the stairway up to the treehouse would help my vertigo --- if the place didn't rock and roll too much!
I'm looking forward to hearing about the animals.

It looks like the dream treehouse that every 4-yr old would want.

Thanks friends.
Dilip, Gauri, it was quite an adventure indeed. But I must say that it is not for everybody. Many people may get bored. Not often animals come seeking humans.
Mike, do come. There are many interesting places in India for you to experience. Even I haven't seen it all. But having some firsthand experience now in other countries including US, travellers have to really rough it out and many things are an adventure here. We had to pass through 4 different checkposts writing our names, paying a minuscule fee - all are government -forest department.
Jinx, surprisingly the the structure was fairly strong despite its appearance. But then I know how strong elephants can be. I have seen them (not here) breaking a stout fencepost like a matchstick. And I must admit I was a little nervous on the Sears Tower too. But humans seem to have a good grip on structural engineering.
Reshma, don't worry. There was one on the ground. Photo does not show it. Yes, it is a dream treehouse for any 4 year old and some 40 year olds.

Definitely the house of my dreams. Only I'd have to remember not to drink too much water before bedtime as I can see me coming to grief on those stairs at night. That must be a fantastic place to listen to the movement of the nocturnal creatures - and presumably high up enough for the mosquitos to leave you alone?

Looks Brilliant - higher up than treehouses I've seen before! What an adventure!
Pandiyan (47 months ago | reply)
Thanks everyone.
Mox, it was unusually high as you picked up. In this picture you can't even see the ground. I wonder why it was built like that.
smallfry, it is interesting listening to the night sounds as you sit/ lie in the dark. Added thrill was the possibility of hearing a tiger growl. We were not lucky. No moquitos fortunately.

I agree with you Pandiyan, its not for everybody. Where is it exactly?
Pandiyan (47 months ago | reply)
It is inside Parambikulam Wildlife sanctuary in Kerala. Do visit sometime, Captain Suresh. This area is known for king cobras too. We did not see any though.
