Bringing up babies
Chennai is growing fast. It is the target for a lot of IT and ITeS companies. Tall, huge buildings, be they, office blocks or apartments, are mushrooming all over. It is all steel, concrete and glass everywhere.
Crows and pigeons are surviving; sparrows, mynas and parrots are becoming rare. Another favourite of Chennai is struggling hard to find its way around the concrete jungle - the Indian Palm Squirrel or Funambulus palmarum. More on this here.
Blue cross retrieves many young babies from air conditioning ducts and such. They want volunteers to take care of them for a few months before releasing them in some park.
Uma and kids have brought home three and the whole household has become very busy. Feeding every four hours, cleaning up and playing with them all the time. These baby squirrels get royal treatment. They get cold and the fans go off. They want to sleep everyone should become silent. The works. People get strict instructions from Nila when she goes off to school.
Now waiting for Arun to say that we should bring home some baby pythons too.

Hullo, Nila (you tell 'em girl)! I hope the best for all these creatures, my friend. It does not surprise me that your family would be in the midst of the rescue!
Oh, and Arun: *whispers so your Dad can't hear* sneak the baby snakes in -- there's plenty of room
*Ahem* Good Show, Pandiyan's Family! :-)

Wonderful photo --- and glad to hear the wonderful work Nila, Arun, and Uma are doing with the babies.
Aside to FrogMuseum2, *consider that the pythons might look on the baby palm squirrels with enthusiasm inversely related to the wellbeing of the squirrels!*

Applause for the friends of nature... who take the time to live, and help other creatures to live as well. Wonderful portrait, BTW.

Your are invited to post a self-portrait in Voices
This may not be an actual self-portrait but your children are so expressive of you (and your wife) that it I think they are. You also have a wonderful one of your son (Arun... is that right) with a snake.

Thanks everyone. You all have been very generous in your appreciation and encouragement.
Mike, Sathish, only squirrels. No pythons or tortoises in the house! As Jinx said they may not go together. The lady at the Bluecross said no for dogs and cats too.
Abhijit, multidimensional??
Gale, Nila's picture has been posted.
Dilip, you have got mail.
Thanks again, dear friends.
