Snug As A Bug In Rug

Snug As A Bug In Rug

The two younger bulldogs are as "snug as a bug in a rug". City likes to be as close to Bessie as possible, she was sleeping on the sofa with a blanket on top of her and City decided to settle down right on top of her. I wanted to catch some pictures of this but City can always hear a camera and he immediately woke up and that was the end of the expected captures. You can see that not much furniture in the livingroom remains uncovered in the evening, it eliminates a lot of dog hair on the upholstery.

McGrath Park is probably the oldest park in town. It was establishes in the early 1900's and is actually on the edge of "old town". The city as it expanded went the opposite direction.

Wilderness In Town

Wilderness In Town

I decided to post pictures from my archives so I could have something a little green and warm at the end of January. During the later 1800's and early 1900's our town was a railroad center. Behind the Catholic Church there was a large pond (Mill Pond), it was used to supply water to the large number of steam locomotives going through town and during early winter ice blocks were cut for the refrigerators in local homes. The big railroad center pulled out of town in the 1930's and our population dropped from 2,500 to about 1,200. It has taken 80 years to regain that population loss. This is a picture of the woods just west of that old pond.

I Can't Talk With A Mouth Full

I Can't Talk With A Mouth Full

Freddie Mac and the other two mares got down to some serious eating after I got their water supply running. I think they had probably been without water for a week. The donut (heating element) that kept their water from freezing had quit working and the pipes had frozen. The high school boy who is in charge of feeding had forgotten to check the water supply. He purchased a new element but that didn't do any good because of the frozen pipes. When Suzy and I returned I solved the problem very quickly as I brought a cooler of boiling water from home.

Frosty Morning

Frosty Morning

A beautiful frosty morning greeted me yesterday as I drove to the farm where the draft horses live. Their water supply had frozen up. The donut that makes sure the water doesn't freeze had died. Donut was replaced but the pipes were frozen. Solution, get two large kettles of boiling water, dump them into a cooler and carry them to the farm. Hooray! It worked the result was happy man and three happy work horses!
