Korknisse for the Cousins

I have two nephews and a niece who live on the West Coast, and despite the distance and infrequency of our visits, we all still have a close relationship and the cousins just love to be together.

In an effort to be a meaningful part of their holiday traditions from 3000 miles away, we established an ornament exchange rather than exchanging yet another set of gifts. Each year, the kids and I select (or make) special ornaments for each of them, and they do the same. When they are all grown, each cousin will have a collection of ornaments for their own tree, provided to them over the years from our family. We try to make them represent something they are interested in, or a time we shared over that year.

I like to personalize the ornaments I make with names or initials; my niece and nephews have unusual names that will never be on a commercially-made item. But this way, they get something special for just them!
