Variable Pitch Propeller
After the previous four postings, here is the business end - a variable pitch propeller, 16 feet in diameter. A variable-pitch propeller or controllable-pitch propeller (CPP) is a type of propeller with blades that can be rotated around their long axis to change the blade pitch. The pitch can be set to negative values for astern propulsion without the need to change the direction of shaft revolution. Those "silver" bars are sacrificial zinc anodes which help to provide cathodic protection for the underwater portions of the hull. My friend is standing by the propeller for scale. This photo was taken a few years ago and my friend is no longer with us. I miss his bigger-than-life character, his joy in finding the goodness in people. He was such a good man.
