Interesting stuff... Considering a couple of centuries ago this whole area was busy, when I lived over there it had basically died.
I guess the pedestrianisation of High Street has stopped that happening to an extent.

It doesnt say when the cross was added on the website.
Stephen Butt is going to release a new book about Hidden Gems of Leicester so I expect we will find out then (assuming hes written it in the book)

The Jubille Square is going to change things a lot - it is true that this part of Leicester is a bit disconnected from the city centre, bus so are the bus and rail stations.

Why the Highcross Leicester was first set to be renamed Highcross Quarter.
highcross-leicester.com/highcrossleicester-why_named_high...
150 Years ago this very area was the hub of leicester and had been so for centuries. The mighty Daniel Lambert sat as Governer of the city Gaol once located on Highcross Steet in the 18th Century. Part of the wall of that Gaol still remains to be seen there even down to this day. So this area really was the central focal point of the city.
