"Your Claim To Fame" LUGNuts Challenge...'66 Batmobile

Very creative windscreen
Shouldn´t this be a retractable blade?
No, saw it at the Cars of the Stars Museum in Keswick. No blade. Must have been just my Corgi toy.
"Your Claim To Fame" LUGNuts Challenge...'66 Batmobile by Lino M.
Not the first, not the last, but the most famous. Its the ‘66 Batmobile and my entry for the LUGNuts “Your Claim To Fame” build challenge. This car started life as a ‘55 Lincoln Futura concept car which was inspired by a meeting with a mako shark during a scuba diving adventure. The Futura featured a bubble canopy, ominous grille and killer fins but unfortunately the excesses of the Futura seemed woefully at odds with the design ethics of the later Sixties and never made it into full production. That’s when the unwanted car got into the hands of designer George Barris who transformed the shark-like Futura into the state-of-the-art Batmobile for the Batman TV Series. Later, the 1966 Batmobile would become one of the most famous and sought after cars on the planet…and the rest is bat history!

I had a die-cast one from back when there were still toys "made in england". And a boat and a batcopter.

kaitimar...I would have loved a diecast of this. Retractable blade? I don't remember there being one and my research didn't talk about it but it doesn't mean there wasn't one. it could be.

Majbe it exists only in toys? I was never much of a fan of the TV series (Batman running arround in broad daylight?!!), so I can´t say if the TV Batmobile had it. Here is mine, or what is left of it...

kaitimer...yeah, batman in broad daylight and doing go-go dancing whenever he got the chance. He's definately got a lot more goth and depressed over time. Thats probably a good thing.

revzillo...thanks! Yep, love this build. Still have it but dusty as hell. I can't bear to wreck it.

kaitimar...wow, I haven't seen either car in person! My friend in New Orleans accidentally chanced upon the Batmobile but I never did. Lucky you!

I think you should make a pilgrimage to Keswick. They are all there! General Lee, A team van, Citty Chitty Bang Bang, KITT - Knightrider (Including KITT convertible), time-traveling DeLorean, Munsters Koach, Volvo P1800 - The Saint, Harry Potter Ford Anglia, Space 1999 Lunar Buggy, FAB 1 - Thunderbirds, 2 other Batmobiles (from Batman Returns and Batman and Robin) , and enough James Bond vehicles to fill a whole separate museum down the road!
