"Your Claim To Fame" LUGNuts Challenge...'66 BatmobileVery creative windscreen Shouldn´t this be a retractable blade? No, saw it at the Cars of the Stars Museum in Keswick. No blade. Must have been just my Corgi toy. ![]() Not the first, not the last, but the most famous. Its the ‘66 Batmobile and my entry for the LUGNuts “Your Claim To Fame” build challenge. This car started life as a ‘55 Lincoln Futura concept car which was inspired by a meeting with a mako shark during a scuba diving adventure. The Futura featured a bubble canopy, ominous grille and killer fins but unfortunately the excesses of the Futura seemed woefully at odds with the design ethics of the later Sixties and never made it into full production. That’s when the unwanted car got into the hands of designer George Barris who transformed the shark-like Futura into the state-of-the-art Batmobile for the Batman TV Series. Later, the 1966 Batmobile would become one of the most famous and sought after cars on the planet…and the rest is bat history!
