Rives House

The Rives House in Downey California. Photo was taken September of 2006. There was an estate sale just before the home was sold. I have admired its beautiful architecture and for many years have always had the curiosity of looking inside. This sale gave me the chance for a close up peek. I wish I had the money to purchase it myself. The owner said she had just sold it for just under 2 million dollars. (This is a bargain when you consider that a 900 square foot home in Downey sells for at least 500k.)

I wonder how mnay ownere there have been since 1970 up until present? The stuff on the tables here look like alot of new stuff. During the 70's and 80's they used to fix this place up for the holidays. The shrubs and all remained the same. I particularly liked it like that. At the front now where the green house is/it's now a real estate office. This must have happened just recently. I'd like to know the purpose of the structure behind the house as well as what it looked like inside. The stuff on the tables here don't look that old at all leading me to believe the previous owner hadn't live here long at all(the kids stuff gives it away as it's not that old). You get any inside shots?

Hello, I was made aware at the estate sale that the house had been passed down with-in the family for generations. I spoke to the eldery owner as I was so curious to learn. I did not ask her for her name but I did take a picture of her in one of the new photos I just up loaded. I believe that the home needed alot of repair; too much upkeep and too large of a home for an elderly person. She also told me that the house had sold for just under 2 million dollars.

The Rives home on Paramount Blvd. and 3rd St. in Downey, Ca. was built for James C. Rives, who was the district attourney of the Los Angeles County and later Superior Court Judge, early in the 1900's.
