Revolutionary new Super-yacht called 'A' (Sigma Project).

Revolutionary new Super-yacht called 'A' (Sigma Project). by Dysartian.
This very bizarre 'James Bond's villain' type ship anchored in the Firth of Forth for about four hours this morning (photo taken between the Dysart Seabeams) whilst a tug-boat and another attendant boat hovered around it. It then vanished into the North Sea at a rate of knots. It had an outline like a stealth ship (upside down bows and stern) and initially I couldn't find details of it on any superyacht website. It was very large, but I thought was still too small to belong to the billionaire Roman Abramovitch! If you can identify it, I would be eternally grateful. Our local newspaper ' The Fife Free Press' knows what it is and will reveal details in tomorrow's edition. Can any 'yachtie' pip them to the post and tell me what it is? YES! Well done to Manatee Voyager and Aloysius P. Gruntpuddock for quickly identifying it! Photo made Explore 2nd July 2008.

P.S. It would appear the owner of the superyacht "A" is Andrey Melnichenkoff! This was the tenth largest yacht in the world when launched recently!

It has got that master spy going to take over the planet look about it. More likely Stagecoach planning to take over when the last cable pings on the Forth road bridge.

I could pretend it was mine, and the crew gave me the slip leaving me beside a Black Country canal - but I'm a hopeless liar!
No idea, but it is intriguing - and a good shot of the mystery vessel.

Hi Glyn, your mystery boat is a new super Yacht Called Project "Sigma" and built in Germany at the Blohm & Voss Shipyards.
The most noticeable feature is the Reverse bow a normal bow design turned upside down which is supposed to Peirce the waves letting them wash over the deck, making for much less pitching in a head sea .
She is 118 metres overall length.
If I dig up any more I will let you know

Yeah flikr. Well done Nigel (Manatee Voyager) my hero! Well done Aloysius Gruntpuddock, a close second ,only eight minutes later than Manatee Voyager! Thanks for the links guys! It would seem the design team were the guys who were behind 'Pelorus', Roman Abramovitch's mini QEII yacht! I love Flickr as a source of great photos, a source of great information and last but not least, a link to wonderful people! It had a large 'A' on the back and rumour has it that it is one of Roman Abramovitch's many superyachts, despite it being only the tenth largest yacht in the world when launched. However, it was the only yacht of its design in the world!

Nice shot Glyn and what a revolting looking thing. Where is the sense of beauty. A yacht should have lines that make you shudder with pleasure.
Sorry Glyn I'll get of my high horse now.

Ian,

I think the concept is that the bow cuts through the waves instead of bucking over them! Afterall we cant have billionaire yacht-owners spilling thir caviare and Krug onto the six-inch thick shag-pilecarpet!

FYI, Roman Abramovich is building a 550 foot monster of a yacht - Project Eclipse which is due for launching in 2010.

This is a confirmed fact, but otherwise very little is known about Eclipse - the level of secrey surrounding his newest "boat" is extraordinary.

That aside, I agree with Ian. Sigma might be futuristic, but to me it's also equally revolting - it's one of the uglist yachts that I've ever seen with no soul or character. To me, Pelorus (also owned by Abramovich) is one of the most beautiful super yachts in the world. Fantastic lines!

i just saw this ship at the Oslo harbour on June 10. It had the mysterious name "A" on the back in a strange font. Since Google doesnt search the letter A it's hard to google it. I took a picture from behind twitpic.com/76o2u
