Chefchaouen is famous for its blue painted streets and doors. The town is situated in the Rif Mountains. in 1471 the town was founded by Moorish exiles from Spain. Following persecution by the Spanish Catholics the Jewish Population in Andalusia left Spain and settled here bringing with them the culture of painting blue. over the centuries the whole town became painted blue. blue pathways show a dead end or 'cul desac'.
