In 2007 the building, long since closed as a cinema, but recently reopened as a theatre, is undergoing a transformation. This will create a 400+ theatre at 1st floor level using the original stage, albeit raised above the current level and a large meeting room at ground floor level. The roof has been replaced and the support for the new barrel vaulted ceiling is in place.

You will recognise the exact same proscenium arch, but the stage is quite a bit nearer the top of it now.
