Historic Chamberlin Hotel in Hampton, Virginia
The Chamberlin Hotel is a historic hotel in Hampton, Virginia, overlooking Hampton Roads at Old Point Comfort. It sits on historic Fort Monroe and overlooks Fort Wool. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it has been renovated from its former life as a hotel into a high-dollar luxury retirement community for folks over 65. The first two floors will retain the "hotel" atmosphere and will be used as guest quarters for visiting relatives of residents, while the rest of the floors have been gutted and turned into two-bedroom apartments. This was once the largest hotel in our country. It was the first to have electricity in all the rooms. It burned to the ground once and was rebuilt but I forgot the year. Ft. Monroe will be shutting down. Ft. Monroe would be a fantastic place to visit as a tourist but money is tight and plans are unsure about its future.
The Chapel of the Centurian is located on Ft. Monroe and is one of my photos in my Church set. It is located inside the moat of Ft. Monroe.
