*In Between: Point of Departure*

Op 15 december presenteert Nieuw Dakota “Point of Departure”, de
eerste inde reeks avonden met filmperformances genaamd “
In Between”. Kunstenaar en curator Irina Birger heeft werk geselecteerd van
vrouwelijke kunstenaars woonachtig in of met een zekere verbondenheid met
Nederland. Jong talent krijgt, naast gevestigde namen, de kans werk te
laten zien dat veelal nog niet in Nederland getoond is. Het thema van het
werk is de zoekende houding van de vrouwelijke kunstenaars in zowel hun
persoonlijke situatie als in hun werk. De werken zullen de thema’s
nomadisme, nationale identiteit, immigratie en de relatie met Nederland ter
discussie stellen. De films staan in de context van de veranderingen in de
culturele sector in Nederland en de reactie van kunstenaars hierop.

Op deze eerste avond zal het werk van Irina Birger (Russia/Israel/NL) en
Maria Zervos (Greece/NL) worden getoond.

On the 15th of December Nieuw Dakota will present “Point of Departure”, the
first in a series of evenings with video projections named “In Between”.
Artist and curator Irina Birger selected works of female artists living in
the Netherlands ...or with a certain connection to it. The opportunity is
given to young talent, together with some internationally renowned artists,
to show their work, some for the first time in the Netherlands. The focus
of the show is on artists who find themselves in between situations in
their life and in their work. Themes such as nomadism, national identity,
immigration and the relationship with the Netherlands will be discussed in
the presented works. The films can also be viewed in the context of the
changes in the cultural climate in the Netherlands and the reaction of the
artist on the current situation.

Irina Birger (Russia/Israel/NL) and Maria Zervos(Greece/NL) will present
their work on the first evening of “In Between”.
