Domesticity: Been down this road before
been round this road so many times
feel like its skin is part of mine
Snookered by Dan Deacon
I mentioned a while back that I was working on a series of pinhole images concentrating on aspects of daily life. While that series is still far from completion, I have enough images to begin sharing a few of them.
The genesis of this idea may have been planted by one of my favorite photographers, Abelardo Morell, who did a whole series of images of his home shot from the perspective of an infant. It was an interesting study in the mundane world around him, and recreated his home into something quite other than ordinary.
And that is the gist behind these pinholes. I wanted to take the most mundane, rote moments of my daily life and find a way to capture a fresh perspective on them. I wanted to better notice these moments, which we usually coast through on auto-pilot. That, and I like the challenge of taking moments that would not normally be thought photogenic and making something creative out of them. I think it is safe to say that it is relatively much easier to get great images out of the spectacular moments, the stormy days at the beach, the brilliant sunsets and sunrise, the tense political rallies, the once-in-a-lifetime events, but what about the once-or-more-a-day occurrences? Take something that most would consider boring, and make it not. That is a fun challenge.
Anyway, I don't think I will necessarily post all of these in a row, afterall I am still building this series. But I will throw a new one up here and there.
Oh yes, and I had to do some careful planning for this shot, making sure the head of the shower would be appropriate obstructive. I did a couple of shots from other angles, but I had to dance around so much so as not to register anything that would get me blocked by Aaron or have my safe filter status revoked that I was just a human colored blur.

This is sooo cool, Zeb. I think you are up to the challenge, and this is inspiring, especially since I think I personally can get into photographic "ruts" and need to be challenged.

Can you please tell us what ISO the film was and the exposure?
Did you photoshop the blue in the background?

I am looking at this on my iPhone but this looks strangely like a PINHOLE of YOUR SHOWER Zeb! ??????????????????????
Do I see a colaboration with Darren and one of his infamous bathtub shots or what? You guys could put out one messed up book together. :)

No!!!!!!!!!!! That is NOT a peach colored towell at all!!!!!!! My eyes!!! Zeb, why didn't you warn me? I would have gladly stayed off flickr today to intentionally miss this.
This is just wrong. I need to go use the eye wash station now.
Folks....regardless of what Zeb tells you we will NOT be offering any nude pinhole workshops...it's for your own good trust me.

What a cool angle! It looks like your shower is so narrow that your arms touch both sides at the same time.

Looks like Aaron left his mango scented bodywash from his last Portland visit....
I love this one. Personally I've never felt challenged to try and appreciate the mundane - it's already half of my shots!

I think this is a great concept, Zeb! Looking forward to seeing more unique shots of everyday life. Cool stuff.

this is insanely good. Made better by the fact that you actually came up with the idea to shoot this like this.

what a neat shot. It took a second glance to see what the shot was of. Never seen this angle. I would have freaked out about humidity or water damage.
Nice to see you're a clean photographer though.

Super clever! This makes me want to re-think all my photography and work on turning my photographic version of "writer's block" into something interesting.

One of the coolest pinholes I've seen. Concept is great, but even the colors are eyecatching. You should try taping your pinhole to the ceiling above your bed while you're sleeping (wear clothes please). I tried it once and overslept and overexposed the image

I just love the aperture setting. f/250. :)
This will be a really cool series Zeb. Everyone liked it so much no one else gave you any grief about it but me. Oh well...what are friends for. :)
