Each man has his own vocation. The talent is the call. There is one
direction in which all space is open to him. He has faculties
silently inviting him thither to endless exertion. He is like a ship
in a river; he runs against obstructions on every side but one, on
that side all obstruction is taken away and he sweeps serenely over a
deepening channel into an infinite sea.
---Ralph Waldo Emerson
I have posted this shot before in color...about two years ago. I recently returned to it and was doing some exploring. I found this, I liked it, and it fit well with this bit from Emerson which I have really wanted to post with a picture for a little bit now. I often feel like I am on that ship, coursing down a deepening river. It can sometimes be exhilarating and sometimes terrifying. But it describes far more eloquently than I can, how I sometimes feel concerning what it is that I do when I have a camera in my hand.
