Jeeze, what kind of camera do you use? These night shots have crazy clarity. I just got a new PowerShot A530 for Christmas, and I actually think it takes worse night time photos than my old 2.1 megapixel camera, but I still have much to learn, so maybe it is better.

I use a Canon S3 (6mp). For night shots I use a $50 Sunpak tripod I got at Best Buy. I also use the 2-second self-timer function on my camera to get rid of any camera shake from pressing the shutter button. Keeping your ISO low (100 or less) also helps. You’ll need longer shutter speed, but that’s fine if you’re using a tripod.
Hope that helps!

Very nice!

Impressive work here too. Good to see that the highlights weren't blown out despite the dark sky. This is excellent exposure control and a good pov. the framing works very well too. Nice work and great sharpness.

They do turn the lights off on the dome at 9pm (this time of year). Every penny counts.

Terrific shot of the capitol building! Thanks for sharing a little about how you took the shot, too.

Cool idea about using the timer!! Really nice! I would hang this on my walls!
Mario.Q (72 months ago | reply)
Thanks Joanne, Buzz, and Woodpeckar.
Kelley, using the timer is definitely a good trick! I actually have an 8x10 of this one printed out...just haven't put it in a frame. Yes, I can be very lazy at times!
