White River falls from powerhouse
A few photographs taken on a short, fun and interesting “road trip” to The Dalles, Oregon area on Monday the 21st of November 2011.
PHOTO: The basalt step watefalls of the White River, by some called the Tygh Valley waterfalls (locals say pronounce it "Tie" Valley)
From the canyon rim at White River state park off highway 216 in Oregon, you can hike a short trail down to the old power plant, built in the early 1900s, in the canyon far below on the river's left bank.
A few miles downstream from the waterfalls and the old hydroelectric power plant, the White River joins the Deschutes River (between Maupin, Oregon and Sherars Bridge across the Deschutes River).

Ton, Vicky, miatasailor and ladique - - THANKS. I can't tell you how good it feels to get out hiking and wandering about back roads, especially on a winter's day. Soon ocean beach hiking and some hikes in the Columbia River gorge will be the only snow free places to hike (nearby). I hope your winter is full of fun activities, especially you manywinters, Fairbanks would be a tough place for me to spend winter (I'm truly a pansy). OMT
