Quiet and still - Mt. Rainier

Shooting location (one of my favorites) is on Chinook Pass (Washington highway 410) right across the road from and south of Tipsoo Lake. It is a 100 yard walk from where you an park.

Friday 9.18.09 I spent all morning roaming Mt. Rainier Park on the Stevens Canyon/Paradise side. The park was surprisingly uncrowded and I enjoyed a short hike up to Glacier Vista. Black tail deer were in the meadows and a lone mountain goat made his way below, alongside the Nisqually glacier.

Chinook Pass and Naches Peak offered the best light and conditions for photographs for the day. No matter how many times you view Mt. Rainier, or travel the roads and trails of the park, it is always fun and inspirational.

These are a select group of some of the photographs I took using the Canon XSi, mostly with the 18-55 mm lens but a couple with the 55-250 mm.

Thank you Pilar, it is a beautiful spot where I stood to take this photo and I had an excellent hike in the area, before and after this photo was taken. Great to roam and wander the alpine! OMT Ten un buen dia y buena suerte con tu vida. Esteban.

Sawtooth - - It is a long story but I got totally frustrated with the XSi on this particular day of shooting. Most of it is the long learning curve I'm going through (so easy to take good photos with the G9 & G10 but it takes a bit more attention to details, patience, and care - - to do the same with the XSi). Still love the G9 & G10 AND if Canon can ever put the fast shutter response recovery time of a DSLR in a G10 type camera - - you know the rest of the story (surely I will never need to buy another camera?). Thank you Beth - - I wanted to get the shoreline wild grass in the foreground but I should have been 10 paces left or 10 paces right to have gotten this one like I would have liked. Still, it is a keeper and I'm glad you like it. OMT

OMT---sure you wouldn't buy another camera! sounds like DSLR size sensors and other DSLR like traits (no shutter lag, etc) are on their way to a compact non slr type body....and I will be expecting you to give me a user report on one someday! Not that I will be of much help but send me a flickr mail with your XSi frustrations if you get a chance.

I plan to take this shot this year. I guess I have to be there before surise and take it in the "quiet" period just after sunrise. Unfortunately these days the sunrise is too early for my liking. Sept should be ok.

abhinaba - September will be a good choice this year. You will have the option to have some wildflowers in the photo instead of lingering snow fields (AND you can sleep in a little later). Good luck. OMT
