The Night Before the Chute

The Night Before the Chute

This is a shot of me standing near our Trail Camp site. Behind me is the snow chute we had to climb the next morning.

Even though it was hard work going up the chute, it sure felt more direct than those switchbacks that were all snowed over. The climb was my first crampons and axe experience and it was a blast!

Final Push

Final Push

I love this shot (though it's only a jpg from a video I was taking at the time). It's my two buddies Gavin and Kris climbing the final snow field to the top of Mount Whitney.

It was a hard slog, but by this time we knew we were going to make it and had extra energy to get it done.

The Whitney Hut

The Whitney Hut

On the east side of Trail Crest we rounded a corner and got our first glimpse of the hut. We stopped to take pictures and then kept moving.

All day I had been giving myself a 40% chance of summiting. I think it was here that I knew I was going to do it. It was a great feeling for the rest of the climb.
