Madonna and child - with sunglasses

When I was processing this last night I was struck very strongly by how in every way this reminded me of Xmas - not only the conifer but also the Madonna Claire and her little child. (I hope I am not offending anyone here). In fact Claire as a little girl in nursery school was Mary in the nativity play. When her Joseph did not remember his lines she quite loudly prompted him.

I was also reminded of Rubens' portrait of his son Nicolaas. What do you think?

Don't you think that there is a very strong correlation between Chloe and Rubens's Nicolaas Rubens Wearing a Coral Necklace? I suddenly had this flash of insight

You're not offending me in any way. I too thought much the same thing. In the Northern Hemisphere the tree would be a pine.

I love the comparison of Chloe to the Rubens sketch. And the bond between mother and child has been celebrated so often through the Xmas imagery. Always wonderful when you can see something in your life in a work of art. :-)

Certainly the processing helps to bring the Christmas "theme" more to life. Might be interesting to try a duotone using the traditional Christmas colours - there again it might turn out awful!

We don't have photos of the wedding Darling because it was a private affair - just the 2 of us in this tiny church saying our vows to each other.
Once Robert is in SA permanently we'll get married properly and then there will be photos! :-))
No I won't stay away too long and I"ll check in on flickr when I have time. Take care xxxx

Love the processing here -- really works beautifully to create a graphic effect. It would never have occurred to me to do this, but that is why you are the artiste! :)

I guess the blond/black here is reminiscent of Rubens painting, indeed :)
very interesting editing, I think you have succeeded in enhancing the original image, and have been able to keep the essentials. Nice work dear :)

Oh, really interesting process, Ilse. Looks like a negative. Does have a christmas feel to it....brfore you know it Chloe will be grabbing at her first christmas tree & scattering decorations everywhere :) Wasn't familiar with Ruben's pic of his son. Same high crown & perfect baby profile but he's not our beautiful Chloe by a long shot :))

Actually, I don't think they have any connection to banana trees, Ilse. So named because they look like a banana. Bring on the peanut butter & jam :))
