The windmill at Kingsbrae Garden is a
genuine, functioning Dutch windmill [1/3
scale] that was commissioned from a Dutch
company when the Garden opened in 1998. It
draws water up from the lower pond and
circulates it through a wooden sluice and
rocky stream to the upper pond, so as to keep
the ponds fresh. Another intgeresting thing
about the windmill is that is the style
normally used for grain mills in Holland, but
since the water windmills are quite
utilitarian, this one was re-purposed by the
Dutch company--much more picturesque!
There is no fireweed at KG; those are mini
astilbe along the pathway.

Very pretty! Is that by chance fireweed bordering the pathway?
