Looking north toward the Pacific Ocean. The Auckland Harbour Bridge to the north shore is in similar position to Sydney Harbour bridge in Australia in relation to the city centres.

Mount Eden volcanic dome crater viewpoint

In the foreground is the crater of an ancient volcano. This area would be a favourite for Maori settlement because of the rich volcanic soil and defensive location. Terraces would be manually dug around the cone to retain water for crops.The center of the crater is considered by Maori as sacred ground and visitors are asked not to descend into it. The paths that seem to be there are most likely small animal paths.
