Still an unknown...

I am doing something I've never done before...re-posting a previous post. I have been trying to track this caterpillar's ID for over 2 yrs. Besides asking people 'in the know', I posted it to 'bugguide' but never rec'd any feedback on it. Hoping someone will be able to help this time around.

Last photo in comment section shows what it looked like from a distance of abt. 3 ft. away to give an idea of it's camouflage capabilities...really blends in, doesn't it?!

Wishing everyone a great day...lots of sunshine here, and in 60 deg this afternoon...65 called for tomorrow. And since it's not b'fly, insect weather yet. looks like we'll be golfin'...=-)

What a beautiful caterpillar and my eyes have never seen one this colorful..... it would be easy to mistake this for a dried leaf from a distance.... l'm at a loss for the ID ..sorry hon...

I hope someone can ID it for you.... (((((((May))))))))))) oxox

Wow, a very cool caterpillar and some excellent shots of him. What a puzzler. Good luck on finding an ID.

Wow - that's one crazy caterpillar! I've never seen anything like it. I just purchased a caterpillar ref which I've never had before. It doesn't have everything but has a lot of b'flies and moths. I'll flip thru it tonite while lying down. My bad back is flared up and not happy right now. Gotta get it happy before the season starts.

btw I've got a number of wildflowers to get ID'd and posted the first to a wildflower forum I belong to. Folks there said it's a "White turtlehead". I've never heard of it! And I read that it is a host plant for Baltimore checkerspot. I'll have to keep an eye on it this fall.

Isn't that unusual. You know I'm no help but this is very cool. Good luck.

I haven't found anything even close. Very strange. The only idea I have is that its normal color might be green and this individual is unusually yellowish. But - I can't find any green caterpillars with that pattern! If you know the wildflower maybe you can track it back from there. I love a good mystery ...

It's very cool looking, maybe some type of sphinx moth?

Odd that bugguide.net couldn't help. I swear those bugheads over there stay up all night trying to be first to solve a query.
