Good morning! Took a road trip to a place called 'Victoria's Glade' yest. in Jefferson CO, MO with the NABA....a fabulous place! We saw approx. 20 diff species in a 2 hr walk, and didn't even come close to covering the whole place.....looking forward to the next visit....=-)
I was snapping a few shots of this Gr. Spangled when the male Zabulon (bright mottled underwing) flew in from behind (see last photo in comment sec.). Next thing I knew, the female had joined them on this thistle bloom. Lighting wasn't the best....sun coming and going, shade, etc.
Large size pretty nice....=-)

btw I got a dark swallowtail this weekend and I'm not sure if it's Pipevine or?? Got a lot of iridescent blue and not much for markings. Didn't capture it below. I always have a tough time matching these to B's thru Binocs. I'll post it for you when I get it cropped.

Good afternoon Daisy...and sorry for being so late on this. Flickr hasn't been kind today...very painful actually. Nice series of shots and if I was going to pic a favorite it might be the last one. And your Fritillary here looks like all the ones I've seen this season with wing damage. Have yet to find an undamaged one :-(
