Another World

There are some places I've been to as a photographer that are like a visual candy store where I could spend all day composing the artistic display before me. Bentonite hills are just such a place. They are everywhere around these parts and there is a particularly concentrated area of it on the way to Cathedral Valley in Capitol Reef National Park. These particular hills are not in the park itself but are along the way. The palette of colors range from reds, oranges, and yellows, to whites and purples. Even tinges of green on occasion. And as if the colors aren't enough, the shapes and forms of the water coursed land are also breathtaking. And on top of all that, sometimes there are beautiful colorful polished stones to discover at your feet along the way. It's a treat for the eyes like none other. So much so that it feels like I'm on some strange and magical planet.

A wonderful abstract here with great texture and tones...Unusual colour scheme with lilac, russet and a pearl white...I like the composition with the strong diagonal from the left and all the lines running to the top to anchor it...
Interesting description of this Bentonite, I am sure it has uses in drought stricken areas to hold water in canals, dams, etc...

Great colors and textures- what I love about this place is the amazing diversity of scales that compose scenes like this- thanks for sharing

I love that part of our country, and could easily lose myself (literally) trying to photograph it. =)

Hi Zach. This looks amazingly like Eastern Oregon's Painted Hills. They're hard to capture in broad daylight. Nice work.
