Row, row, row your boat
At Abomey-Calavi we boarded a boat to cross Lake Nakoue. This area is inhabited by the Tofino Tribe, which means “he who loves water”. In the 18th century, the Tofino fled here from further north after many battles with the neighbouring Fon tribe. They chose to build their homes on the swampy shores of the lake, as Fon religious customs forbade their warriors from venturing onto the water. They felt they were safe here
