DIY Acrylic Water housing

Here is my newest water housing. It is the fourth one I've built and the third made of acrylic.

The main reason I build this one was to see how small I could get it. It fits the camera much tighter that the previous ones that were just rectangular prisms. You can see that at points the camera is practically touching the acrylic.

The main body is made of 3/8 and 1/2 inch acrylic (plexiglass) and the lens port is 1/4 inch PVC. That is why it has the blue tint to it. The latches and trigger hardware was ordered from Ikelite, a housing manufacturer. The screws and such came from Ace hardware.

To build this I used a router, a radial saw, a dremel tool and a belt sander. The pieces were first glued with acrylic cement that is very thin and then all the joints were later glued again with a thicker cement that made more of a solid joint.

As you can see the lens port is removable. This one is for my Nikkor 50mm f/1.8. Next I will make one for my Tokina 12-24mm. That is the lens I use for wakeboarding.

Cost: ~$120. The latches were really expensive and the acrylic very cheap.

Thats awesome. How did you make the O-ring/Gasket seal for the body? It looks like it fits perfectly.

I used a router to make the groove for the o-ring. The ring had to stretch just a bit to fit on the groove and stays there snugly.

You're my f*ckin hero... I'm doing research to make a housing for my Nikon F5 to do surf shooting. Do you mind if I pick your brain?
