Screaming Self Portrait #1
I've had this idea for awhile and had a bit of free time so I set up the gear and shot a few frames. I really like how they turned out. As a side note I am not really screaming, no noise here.
The set-up shot is here.
Strobist Info: SB-28 set at 1/8th power through umbrella to camera right. SB-600 and some old minolta flash aimed at background one from right and one from left. The SB-600 was set to 1/8th and the minolta has no power settings so I used 3 layers of a white handkerchief as a ND filter (I heard that each layer is a stop so it was also at about 1/8th).

Hey man.. this is really interesting! I also like the fact that you shared info on your old minolta flash. I have a two old vivitar flashes that i might have to do the same thing to reduce the output. The photograph does look great! Nice Job!

Thanks! I don't use the minolta often because it has no power settings, but I needed more light on the background, so I broke it out.

Very cool shot, very nicely done.
The handkerchief idea is a good one. All the shots of Brandi in my pool right now were done with an old Vivitar 283, a 2800, and a 550FD, none of which have adjustable output (although there was a 430ex in there). If I wanted 1/2 power, I took out the 283 and replaced it with the 2800. :P

What were you saying? I mean with that expression on your face, there had to be noise involved, right?
BBurnie82 (51 months ago | reply)
Nope, no noise involved. just pretend.
