australian gothic

this person - richard baxter - was until recently was known to flickr as the inhabitant, or ricardo of the forest, lately as ~☼~ and at one stage, if memory serves 'the arrogant elitist bastard' after a dispute in deleteme - which is like that, so just don't do it, kids!

he stands in his studio in front of a joint painting (i.e. by both of us) in its draft stage - the post-christian landscape (see thumbnail link to completed version in comments) - with the tools of his then (pays-the-rent) trade in hand

adelaide, south australia, 1991 (thanks for the year, richard)

for the sake of his dignity i must inform you that the shot came about as a result of me asking him to act as a model for a painting in the voss series (see thumbnail below for example) that i never actually completed, to the best of my recollection

modelling for other artists work is pretty standard - i remember that the former state premier bought a painting of a canvas by richard where the central figure was one i'd modelled for - leading to a hypothetical headline' 'bank bust-up bannon buys bill's bum by baxter' ! (premier john bannon's fortunes had declined as sharply as investors' with the collapse of the old state bank in the deregulatory frenzy that was the 80's!)

those missing - or just curious about - the works of the man in question may always visit his studiobaxter site

it was another talented flickr member - also a richard - whose comment on the painting below (referring to grant wood's famous double portrait) called this image to mind

voss - the evening before departure

Very Rolf Harris, without the beard and wobble board.

I dont mind the painting like that, kind of chinese/japanese classical, without the mastery.

I do look something like that today, without the hair and the whipper snipper.

You should add the painting here for which I was posing, for interest and explanation for the sake of my dignity.

I have it listed on my website as 1991, I would have been 25 at the time.
