    For the first time I went to the Chinese new year parade in Paris today ... it was a bright and cheerful event!

      My 8yo daughter was explaining to me earlier today how I was mispronouncing this -- "It looks like the English word 'fat' but that is not how it is pronounced!"

      I love the brilliant reds (and golds and greens) of this holiday.

      I wouldn't take my daughter's word as authoritative, but according to her the 't' in "fat" is more of a glottal stop than a 't', and the 'k' in "kung" is slightly voiced. And I mangle the tones. I'm sticking to Russian, which is much easier.
