      the original fire station in West Norwood is now an amateur dramatics centre (theatre)

      When I was a recruit in 1958 our squad was brought from the Training School at Lambeth to this station and shown around.
      It was also here that our instructor first demonstrated the correct method of 'sliding down the pole' and we all made our first descent so to speak.

      how old is the building??? my great-grandfather was a fireman here from about 1909

      i've just seen it was built in 1881. well my grandmother was born here - her birth cert says so! -)
