A MIGHTY STRANGE CHICKEN!

Twice this past week I have gone out to feed the chickens and found this Barred owl in the coop! And yes, twice he killed a hen for dinner. I hope I have secured the coop!! I do feel sorry for him, though as our bitter cold and constant snow cover have deprived him of the ability to get a normal meal.

Wow, what a great shot. And what a cheek! I mean its one thing to pinch a hen, but a whole other level to shack up there for the night too! lol. Maybe he couldn;t squeeze back out with his tummy full. Beautiful bird though.

What a treat to capture this shot! We (in New Zealand) have the native owl called a Morepork (from the sound of their call). I have only ever seen two, but was never fortunate enough to have managed a photo. I have just acquired my first 4 chickens and have spent the last 3 months building their coop and run. By the time it is finished, it will be at least a 5 star home and the eggs will have cost about $10 each!!!

Beautiful and rare shot of the villain caught red beaked - and lucky because not all farmers would have used a camera.
