Duggs Carre, Marsden Imbolc 2012

I think he was one of the organisers. This was taken at the start of the procession. With the snow falling so heavily, I wondered if the event would go ahead. But this guy and the others had a resolve. I think you can see it here.

I deliberately underexposed some of these shots, to try and capture the darkness. I didn't use a tripod or a flash either. I wanted to use the available light, to capture those colours. I also wanted to travel light, so I could run around and get myself into the right places. I really enjoyed it. I'm a shy person, but when I've got a camera in my hands I become a different person. Feels very right!

One thing I love about this shot is that it's fast enough to capture individual snow flakes as they fall. It has a shutter speed of 1/500th of a second. If I was shooting Imbolc in the snow again, I'd set my exposure to 1/500th. As it was, I was on aperture priority, f/2.

(Thanks patchouli_owl for letting me know his name!) :-)
