Pojoing Bubble
I've been blowing bubbles inside bubbles. They float around freely inside, but they sometimes then settle at the bottom of the main bubble. Then they can pop back through the surface. That's what's happening here. As is usual for me, I caught it by luck.
You can see that the action of the bubble popping through puts the rest of the big bubble through some kind of shock that makes it wobble out of shape. Boing!
I'm calling this pojoing. Can you think of a better name?
(To get decent image quality here, I have to make choices as to where I focus. I'm pleased I got focus at the bottom, where the surface effects are all kicking off. I think I have got decent focus on the reflection too, but maybe it looks blurry because the bubble is going through a major wobble. I'm hoping for a brighter day so I can use a faster shutter speed. I have some ideas for how to make the most of this pojoing effect......)

Excellent capture.
If I was more of a mathematician, I could probably have a field day with this.
R.E. you "caught it by luck": When a person makes a study of what they do, they develop an ingrained feel for the way things work. When they also take as many photos as you do, it is no longer a mater of luck; but the law of averages.

;-) Yep, it would have happened sooner or later. Not exactly 'luck', but it feels that way when the shot appears on the camera screen.

Hi Richard I am a student studying photography at WINTEC Hamilton NZ and my assignment is on movement. I've chosen to document bubbles and I have to research artists models that photograph within same concept or technique. You are one of very few that I can find on Google could you please advise technical requirements to shoot the way you shoot? Your help would be greatly appreciated although I do understand if you are busy. Many thanks
Also if you know of any one else that has done bubbles extensively such as yourself or that focus on fast shutter speed as a technique could you please email if you have the time.
Many Thanks

Hi Trina
You can find the camera settings for each photo on 'actions' - just above each photo. Have a look at some of my descriptions with the photos too, as I've tried to explain things as I've gone along. But in short I try to shoot them quite fast, at 1/500 of a second. Having lots of sunlight and a dark background helps too.
Feel free to ask me any more questions, feel free.
Richard
