Green Bubble Popping (One-Sided Reflection!)

Good weather this morning, so we did some bubble popping. I didn't get much depth of field (f/2.8) from ISO 400, but what was in focus was nice and clear. You can see through the bubble, to see that the back of the bubble has popped. This is because Sarah's hand was to the back more than to the side. That's probably why the reflection is so clear: there's no reflections from the back (because there is no back!!!!). Now I think about it, this is something of a one-off!

That's real nice, captured perfectly mid-pop. And that reflection is so sharp, amazing as usual!

So very clear...I like the fact that you can be seen very easily in this one.

These bubble pops are a joy to behold every time I see them. This one looks like a jellyfish being prodded ;-)

Thanks all. I didn't think I'd ever see a single reflection like this in a bubble, but here it is. Thanks for your comments. :-)

Thanks m_beiram. This morning was the first morning in weeks that the weather was right for this. Took me 10 minutes to get this, but I've been learning how to do these shots for a year now.

    Hi,
Quick question. im am trying to take shots like this and just wondered if you keep you lens on auto focus or manual ?

  43. richard.heeks (32 months ago | reply)

Hi Chris. I use manual, because I can see focus through the viewfinder. I use the macro technique of moving myself and the camera back and forth to get the bubble in focus. I set the focus distance at 1.3 metres. That works well for me. I have tried autofocus, and it can work, but I prefer the extra control that manual affords. Hope this helps.
