My Day of Fame (Monday 13th July 2009)
Monday was a big day for me, as my bubble shots were in most of the UK national newspapers. Here's 6:
The Sun
The Mirror
The Daily Mail
The Times
The Daily Express
The Independent
If that wasn't enough, I've heard I was mentioned on GMTV, BBC News, and Good Morning America.
Going to be showing off about this for too long!
Looking online, and from reports from people on flickr (thanks everyone), I was also in Indian, Chinese, and Australian papers.
Can't imagine this happening again!
(Note that the press agent presented the story as a sequence of shots, when each of these photos is actually a different bubble. Many of the 'stories' also say I've high a "slow-motion" camera, which isn't completely true either. It made for a good story though - a good presentation.)
Oh, and PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE SEEN ME IN ANY OTHER NEWSPAPERS, as I'll try to get hold of them. Anyone got a copy of Monday's Metro?

Wow! Congrats! I must have been living in a cave on Monday to have missed it with all that exposure (pardon the pun!)
Well deserved! Perseverance paid off! Remember us flickr folks now you're famous!

ITV's Loose woman too. Don't forget the women of Loose! Fancy doing some PR for me? lol. But seriously do you? :)
richard.heeks (35 months ago | reply)
@Stephen Gunn "Loose women"? I don't have a TV (seriously!) so just don't know TV people names. PR! LOL. I can't even get people to reply to my comments on Facebook. But seriously, a press agency saw my photos on flickr and then distributed a story, so they did ALL the PR here, not me.

It was my girlfriend that called to say to turn it on. She has this crazy idea I speak to every photographer in Britain and that I'd know you lol. Kidden. But I suppose flickr is pretty cool that way. You have some pretty nice stuff in your stream mate, besides the bubbles, obviously. What is it you do for a living?

Well deserved, mate these are awesom how on earth did you get them? Did the papers get permission to print and did they pay you? Its not everyday your ten minutes of fame arrive in one go.
Great shots well done and well deserved.
Sj
richard.heeks (35 months ago | reply)
HI steeple_jackuk. Yes, a press agent distributed the pictures to the newspapers. I gave the press agent some info as to how I took the shots etc, which didn't fully come across in the newspapers, but they got the gist of it. It was all about the pictures, so any text was just background really. I'm splitting the profits with the press agent.

Congratulations, you deserve it.
i know how difficult it is to make those shots. ;-)

I only just saw this shot, didnt realise just how famous your bubbles were! Very well done to you!
Some of your individual bubble photos have nearly 90'000 views!! Wowsers!
richard.heeks (7 months ago | reply)
Thanks Joe. Yep, they really drew in views for a while. They've had some insane viewing numbers on blogs too. I sometimes wonder how many views they've had in all, and then I give up trying to think. I once got 200,000 views over a couple days on Redbubble, no doubt due to a blog. Pretty weird to watch those numbers stack up. And the TV programmes, like Good Morning America and GMTV.
Joe__M (7 months ago | reply)
Thats an amazing amount of views! My most in a day is 500, Ha! And my photo with the most views ever has just reached 1500, which I thought was quite impressive, but now it seems quite pathetic! lol
You've definitely inspired me to try some photo's involving bubbles! They are great! My new Canon EOS 7D is capable of shooting 8 frames per second, so I reckon I have a fair chance of capturing a 'pop' if I just hold the shutter down :-)
richard.heeks (7 months ago | reply)
Yes, the 7D would be ideal. I think a small bubble takes about 1/100th of a second to go through its whole pop cycle. 8fps is pretty good - gives you a great chance. Good luck Joe.
