The Poor Man's Winter Classic 2012

Can any Philadelphia sports fan think of a better way to spend New Year's Eve then to watch an outdoor hockey game at Citizens Bank Park, home of major league baseball's Philadelphia Phillies...okay that's just a rhetorical question....

Anyway, I'm sure that a lot of local sports enthusiast could think of a better way to spend the day but for a huge hockey fan like myself this is pretty much heaven!

With that said, I can now say that on December 31, 2011 I witnessed probably one of the greatest exhibition games in NHL history, or at least in Flyers history. Even though there wasn't much significance to the game, and effort, the more important accomplishment was that the organization finally welcomed Eric Lindros back into their family. After many years of bad blood between he and Bob Clarke, this event reunited Eric & his fans all across the Delaware Valley. I can now only hope that the organization, fans, and city can finally embrace him as one of the greatest Philadelphia athletes of all time...

    Final Score: Flyers 3 - Rangers 1

Why didn't they just play the game at Philadelphia Eagles Stadium? It's more conducive to hockey. And what's up with center field?? The seats are so far away from the rink.

I wonder if Ryan Howard made an appearance ... and tripped and fell on the ice. He would do it, Mr. Choke Artist.

Great shot, and color balance here. And what's really weird is I just saw this setup (no people) on the Giants/Cowboy game.

I believe it was played at Citizens Bank because the Eagles had a conflicting home game...the site lines would have been much better at the Linc

OK, you're a fan. I understand that. I'm a fan also. I watched this on TV, and just marveled at the ridiculousness of the seating arrangement. I have no idea what your ticket cost, I just know if I go to a game. I at least want to be able to make out that there is a puck being slapped around.

Agreed...the ticket prices for the real game were offensive because there were no retail tickets sold to the general public so StubHub, etc were the only options. The game I went to, the Alumni Classic, was much more reasonable but definitely not as competitive...

They couldn't hold it at The Linc due to the Eagles still being in the middle of there season.
