    Audience: Families, dads...

Direction: Going for "first place gold" type of feel... Church is playing off the idea of "my dad can beat your dad"... Client specifically looking for some "shine"...

Also, this is the concept that they sent for inspiration
Does anyone know a good tut on getting that "shine" from behind the letters... or could point me in the right direction?

I like the reflection and lighting that you did. But I'd do real 3D instead of just 3 layers. I'd also get rid of the blue. It seems weird, unless all the sides are blue. Otherwise I'd keep it all gold/orange. Otherwise, I think it's pretty cool!

      Nice tut!
I would agree with Alex you need some real 3D. If you want a challenge try Blender. But only if you have hours and hours to spend on it. Otherwise try illustrators' 3d effects.

I agree with atillard about the blue.

and that same effect can be accomplished in illustrator without blender. www.joecavazos.com/home/2009/5/31/the-making- of-the-famil...

Absolutely love the lighting you did, I would agree more realistic 3D effects.
