District 9 Mecha Suit
I finally saw the movie and was inspired to build (big surprise) the mech. It does fit a fig, as seen here.
Anyone who has not seen it yet, here is the trailer. A few shots of the mech can be seen near the end.
Also, the stickers used to simulate damage and alien script are cut from actual LEGO stickers. I never cut or modify pieces (except once for a mini-fig), but I love hackin’ up the stickers…;-)

Looks great. I have not seen the film, but from the trailers I would say you have done a really nice interpretation.

Fanastic. Great parts usage all around. My only beef is the sticker placed across 2 parts. It bugs me a lot when TLG does it but bugs me less here.

As always dude, you have knocked my socks off.

Brian, this is serious stuff. Someone could get hurt seeing something like this because they'll pound themselves in the head to make sure they're not crazy. I'd hate to run into one of these in a dark alley . . . or a well-lit street.

I'm pretty indifferent about the movie, but this is a beautiful representation of one of its few bright spots.

I like hackin' up stickers as well. I enjoyed the movie, but I think I enjoy your Lego rendition of the mech better. Superb.

The mech is super sweet, but my favourite part is the base for it, it's just what I could picture I would see in the film.

Brilliant. I loved that scene (and suit) in the movie, but I think I like your Lego version better.

Awesome. This is sick. All this detail, and it fits a fig, which makes it even more badass. You should take a photo of this next to the foundation mech. The details are great.

What I like about this, is the lack of total and utter complexity within the build. What really makes this entire scene, is the presentation. Well done!

Truly excellent. You captured it perfectly.
I would love to see it next to THIS.

There are so many comments here that I am probably repeating someone, but man, this is a great creation. Even if you take away the fact that it looks spot on, it is a fine build.

The mecha is undoubtably great (though I'm not a fan of your Wikus Van De Merwe fig inside), but I'm used to that from you. What I really like is the random-seeming detailing on the base.
Also, we're trying out a new group called Blogged by The Brothers Brick, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

sweet. but wasnt it black?
mondayn00dle (33 months ago | reply)
Thanks all…it’s a nice challenge to try and replicate a design vs. coming up with your own. It’s a bit of a different mindset…
A couple things-
The stickers across the skis that make up the shin guards are to make them look more like a single plate and are aesthetic in nature…not structural. The skis are actually stuck into a grill tile which holds them very securely.
Yes, the mech in the movie appeared to be more of a dull black color, but most LEGO parts are glossy, and this thing just wasn’t working in gloss black, IMO.
If anyone is interested, I posted a pic showing the technique I used for the rusted fence the mech is stepping through (and on.) You can do some pretty neat stuff with it.
Thanks again, everyone!
