WWI "Sandpiper" Recon Walker

Conceived as a more nimble alternative to tanks for crossing the trenches that dominated the western front, the Sandpiper actually found it’s calling on the vast plains of the east.

Originally designed for frontline combat, the spindly frame proved unable to support the armor required for such a role. It was stripped down and converted for recon duty on the shifting lines of the eastern front.

Introduced late in the conflict, it nevertheless proved a highly effective scout vehicle, able to traverse the most difficult terrain, and capable of surprising speed in open countryside. The Sandpiper was equipped with a state of the art wireless radio and a .303 caliber machine gun, used primarily for defensive purposes.

Pretty steam punky I know but that's a good old-fashioned internal combustion engine on there.

*catches breath*This is Lego porn. BTW are the kids allowed to go near this one? "I've worked too long on this for you to go and screw it up now! Go and stand over there! OVER THERE!!"

One of my favorite creations in a long time. I'll be pouring over the pics for a while. Amazing work here. The style is plain phenomenal.

Got the ol' "your review has been sent" message on MOCpages, so I'll just say it here: Holy S**t, F**king sweet *ss MOC. (Wonder why MOCpages wouldn't let me post?) I love how far removed this is from some of you titanic, heavily armed Mechs. Great job!

Wow, thanks for the kind words everyone…I’m glad you guys liked it.

Shannon- Actually, that’s my big secret…the kids build all this stuff and I just post it and take the credit. I’m lucky if I can build a wall out of 2x4 bricks.

Chris- Alternate? You mean you don’t remember seeing these things in your history textbook?

Zach- I’m sure the Stinkbug was somewhere in the back if my mind as I built this.

Nnenn- I’m fortunate to have spelled “the” correctly...please don’t ask for the moon as well.

Tim- I’ve been browsing some MaK recently so yeah, you’re probably right.

Brent- Actually, I am thinking about another one in this theme, but I’m not sure if I have enough of the right pieces in old grey.

@kaitimar - Yeah, I think "dieselpunk" describes it perfectly!

Yes, those pulleys and rubber bands on the legs do make the model absolutely perfect. The cockpit is well-done too.
