      ISn't that the most luxurious chicken palace! How clever to be able to plan and build that! Adorable! (I almost wish I was a chicken ;-)!
      I especially love the (neo?)gothic window!

      One of the true pleasures in everyday life is to be able to make useful beautiful things with your own two hands, isn't it, whether it is a chicken coop or a pair of woollen socks.

      Beautiful coop!

      It's so nice to see how you seem to make beauty out of everything you lay your hands upon.

      Do you have the design plan for this? If so, are you willing to share? We are in the process of researching coop designs for our backyard. We are going to bring home 3 chicks next spring:)

      Hi! I used your photo as part of a Modish guest post about inspiration for my soon-to-be chicken coop.
      I hope that's okay, if not, please let me know and I'll be glad to switch it out!

      So Cute! I hope i can scrounge as efficiently as you did.
      Do you happen to have plans for this coop you could pass along?

      Mirandy;
      Hi ,
      I don't have a plan on paper really but here are some points about it .The coop is about 40 inches by 40 inches and about 6 feet high at the front and 5 at the back which allows for the pitched roof. On one of the sides there is a window pane which opens for aeration when you do cleaning.. The floor for the chickens is at about 3 feet high inside the coop. On the middle of that floor there is 12 x 6 inch trap door which helps a lot when you are cleaning the soiled straw. Underneath this floor is what we can call the basement for the chickens to which they have access from from the outside with one open side. This is useful when they want to hide from the rain or hide. You can use wood boards for the walls or plywood. The support posts are standing on 4 separate square cement slabs. On the back wall of the coop there is little door abour 10 inches by 12 inches for the chicken's entrance. An up and down sliding door is operated at the front with a pulley system. We lock them up at night...Racoons,...
      The front which you see in the photo has a door which opens for cleaning access and general inspection. There are two laying boxes on the side oposite the window side.
      If you have any questions more feel free to ask.

      Beautiful job!! This is my favorite that I've seen.
      Where did you get the recycled materials? If I wanted to do something similar, where should I go looking? Or was it something you had around the house...

    21. lord marmalade (15 months ago | reply)

      battlmnkey.: I scrounged the wood around town, demo sales and using discarded wood from old houses, old boards and so on but it all looks nice but you have to have some skills as carpenter and know the quality of old wood, its color, its age and its potential. It's actually easier to use new wood for various reasons but as an avid environememtalist and experienced with wood I can recycle old wood to make it look its best. Good luck....

      I host a monthly gathering of "urban chickeners" in Asheville and would love to post this pic to my blog for others to admire. You've done a supreme job of combining color and texture and design!....oh, and let's not forget, efficiency. Lord M, I don't see a place to obtain a direct email address for you so I really hope this reaches you and i can obtain permission. I can be reached at asheville_landlord at yahoo dot com.
