Nishiki Ultra Tour
Originally I built this bike around the beautiful Alistair Spence-built custom rack as a half-step granny with a Tubus Fly rear rack, but quickly learned my mistake - the porteur rack was good for an urban commuter, but I didn't want to ride a heavy, flabby geared bike for commuting. I continued to ride my other Nishiki, in fixie-rando-beater mode. So I finally got around to combining the fixie drivetrain with the Ultra Tour frameset - the rack only fits on the fork for this bike, so I had to figure out how to run a bike with nearly vertical dropouts as a fixed gear. Half-link on the chain.

Wow, very harmonious. Porteur + fixed (Fixteur?) makes for one clean looking urban bike. Those toe clips actually look big enough for my feet. What are they? Or maybe they're just "customized."

This kind of bike works very well for me!
The toe clips are Christophe Specials, their extra-large model. These are easier to bend to give you some extra toe room than are the MKS steel clips, which are really springy.

Good to know about the malleability of the Christophe toe clips. I always have to re-shape toe clips to fit my big feet and I've broken a couple of MKS ones in the process. As you say, the metal in the MKS clips seems to have a much higher yield strength. They just don't seem to want to take a set when you try to bend them.

Nishikorteur!

Since it's a Nishiki Sport, I call it the "Sporteur". I guess that'd make yours an Ultra Toureur. ;)
