"Mountain" Durian, King of the "King of Fruits"
The ones on the left (red and orange - two types) are what we call Mountain Durian. You can only find this type of durian in Borneo island (Brunei, Sarawak, Sabah, Kalimantan).
Oh...! I tell you, these are much richer in taste than it's mild cousins (the Thailand and West Malaysia types). The little guys packed a big punch.
I believe, by and large, these Mountain Durian are still harvested from the wild.

I heard people have started planting in West Malaysia. As the trees take long time to grow and few in numbers, each harvest is pre-booked by orang kaya (rich people).
Next time in season and if my relatives can smuggle some, i will announce. keke....

Orange fleshed Durian: Malaysian names: ' Lai ' or ' Nyekak ' and also ' ukak ' or ' dalit ' and English botanical name is Durio kutejensis. It is a highly variable species,so there are many varieties which differ significantly in fruit size and percentage of flesh . There are 4 named varieties in Kalimantan.
It grows in lowland forest , so ' Mountain Durian' might be a wrong name for it.

Ken, thanks for the info. Very good info indeed. Going by the info, it shouldn't be called mountain durian at all. :-)
I am using a direct translation from Chinese living in Sarawak/Brunei. That's how it is called over there among the Chinese community.
