WWII GMC CCKW-353 Air Compressor truck

Well, I’m back.......back with another WW II truck picture – like it or not. This is what you do when you have more time than money on (or in) your hands. This image was stolen from the Wikipedia web site, found here but as you will note, the picture is public domain and the photographer has waived all of his or her rights to the work worldwide under copyright law, including all related and neighboring rights, to the extent allowed by law. About:
The depicted truck is the WW II U.S. Army 2 1/2 ton GMC CCKW-353 Short Wheelbase (Closed Cab) Air Compressor truck. The main chassis, drive train, gear box and truck engine was the basic 2 1/2 ton, 6 x 6, GMC manufactured military truck. The bed area of these trucks were fitted to accommodate a LeRoi (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) model 105GA air compressor unit driven by its own LeRoi D314 4-cylinder 5.215 cm3 (318 cubic inches) petrol engine. The compressor itself was a 3-cylinder, two-stage air-cooled engine capable of producing105 cfm at 100 PSI.

The massive destruction of wartime conditions in Europe obviously impeded the progress of the advancing Allied units making it critical to quickly repair and/or improvise infrastructures in order to facilitate advance. It was the assignment of the U.S. Engineers Corps to clear, repair or in many instances, destroy any obstacles that may stand in the way of the advancing armies. At the end of 1944, the US Engineers Corps had more than 3,000 trucks at their disposal.

Do to the high contrast of this image, the image appears very "busy". Suggest viewing at larger size. Has more impact and not so busy appearing.
