- Numerous bacteria - taken from a microscope. An air sample was taken from my room and only this bacteria was isolated and viewed under the microscope.
Micrococcus luteus is generally harmless.
Isolated bacteria - Micrococcus luteus
Support bacteria - they are the only culture some people have!

It doesn't do anything for me as a photo though I'm intrigued to know the story behind the shot.

I don't understand what it means, but the composition is well balanced, and the colors, although only 3 in number, are well disposed.

I am writing a picture book on SOIL for elementary school children. One page is devoted to micro organisms in soil. I wish permission to use this ph0tograph. Of course I will credit the source and will send you a published book. I have written a similar book titled EARTHSCAPES; see www.rockonpub.com for the format. I will be pleased to send you a copy if you wish. Jerry Wermund

Are you sure this is bacteria? Bacterial cultures are usually shiny and non-fuzzy. This looks fuzzy, much more like a mold growth than a bacterial growth.
NEPMET (18 months ago | reply)
Yes Bob_blaylock. This is what bacteria looks under a scope. I actually later did 16srrna sequencing to verify that it was micrococcus luteus. And when I zoomed in more, I could clearly make out that it was bacteria.

Love this photo - looks kinda fluffy, fuzzy and even snowy - not what one would expect for a bacteria and hence a perfect accompaniment to my article. Thank you so much for making it available (I've of course included the proper credit):
