Grand Blue
Grand Canyon, June 2010
Canon 40D, Tamron telephoto, 73mm, ISO 400, f/14.0, 1/640, AWB.
I arrived hoping to get some great sunset-colored shots, but the sun hung behind gray clouds and we got almost nothing. So instead of looking for the canyon to be lit from behind me, I turned and looked directly towards the sunset, and liked the shapes and colors. Post-processing in Elements: Cropped heavily from the original (didn't think to crop in like this in person), used levels (I believe) to darken, to make the foreground cliff nearly black so its details of color and texture didn't detract from the layers of blue and it just becomes one more darker, closer layer.
