I love this one. Much better in color, IMO. This doesn't even have that wide angle look too it.

interesting. thanks for the feedback.

How close were you? I get some of that big nose effect, even at 50mm when I get up close.
.Chris.K (39 months ago | reply)
this is a pretty big crop cos the original is shithouse. i;d say maybe a metre away roughtly. i get that "wide head, big nose" look aswell if i get too close at 14mm. this ones at 24mm so its nowhere near as pronounced.
i've looked bwteen the colour/ mono versions a couple of times and this onedoes seem to be better proportioned. i have no idea why, mayve the colours break it up.

you say the original is "shithouse" - many "normal" portraits taken with an ultra-wide are. you have to get "in" to the picture somehow. either shoot down to show the head larger than the body or up from below etc., - of course, having this lens in your arsenal makes "sense" for wide landscapes where you want to get the whole vista IN to your image, but i'd like to see some examples of where YOU'RE getting in to your portraits.
either that, or stop using it, or sell it.
good luck though. this pic has worked out very well but you're wasting the glass if you're doing micro centre crops.

when i said shithouse, i meant that i blew the exposure of the sky and there was alot of distractons. i dont know what drew you to comment on the photo or from what group, but i'm glad you did. all valuable feedback. thanks. :)

came from the 14-24 group itself. i do a lot of child portraiture, but i steer clear of using this lens. I should probably challenge myself to use it more - let me know how you get on.
