I'm an unemployed truckdriver.Been in and out of trucks since i was 15.The last 12 years been on the road.Have a good driving record,no accidents.Never thought I would see the day when i could not find a job.And if people only new the reality of what we all as dedicated professionals go through. They might have a little more understanding of how dangerous the job is.
I think it might help our reputation if the schools and some of these companies would not keep turning out these wanna be truck drivers after 2 weeks of traing. And what it means to be a professional.

I am an unemployed truck driver as well, but I am one of the newbies. After one month I knew that the people in this industry with the money and power suffered from some form of mental deficiency. Somehow what is lost in the translation is the objective of income. Most of the companies who advertise for drivers are looking for people with more than two years experience, and the offers are .41/mile.... how is any experienced driver unemployed?? The more experienced drivers are teaming with novices and to raise their income, and I emailed back and forth with a guy who insisted on teaming with pretty women because they are 'easier to talk to'. This industry has its problems, all self inflicted, and most are the difference between being employed and not. Promises of profit followed by 5-day vacations at a truck stop or parking lot isn't my idea of a good time. My unfortunate reality.....

You don't want to drive for Landstar....they take too much of your earnings and leave you sitting too much.

I am also an out of work truckdriver. I have been driving over 3 years. I don't believe that there is any common curtousy between old timers and newbies. I think that the old timers should teach the new drivers about driving. I can't believe how we are treated and I do have some miles under my belt. I am a believer that all drivers should see what we as professionals go thru especially dispatchers!! And lets not forget those children who don't have a clue. I was always told that there were always more jobs then drivers but I guess that is not the case anymore. Be Safe
